EMOTIONAL RAIGUNJ CELEBRATES THE HISTORIC MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY

By Partha Chatterjee (TNI Raigunj) ~ Edited By R. Subrata (TNI Siliguri)
Webdesk, TNI Raigunj, 21st February, 2016: If also the people of Bengal are divided with their political ideologies but for the Golden Bengal of the Bengalis, they are one by heart, when the question of mother tongue Bengali is concerned. The frontier fences may have distanced the Bengalis from their fences but it failed in separating the hearts of the people in both ends. In the year 1952, on 21st February when West Pakistan Administration tried to introduce Urdu as the official language at Bangladesh (Under West Pakistan’s control), then there was revolution throughout whole Bangladesh. There were Martyrs like Salam, Barkat, and many other Language activists. The Bengali language thus became the official language of Independent Bangladesh. Today along with the two Bengal’s Raigunj also celebrated International Language Day. The entire town was awakened with the tune of songs, verses of the Bengal’s Mother tongue. Today with the initiative of ‘Bhasha Bhawna’ a rally was organized at Raigunj from Ghari More to Railway Maidan after traversing the entire town. On the other hand, with the initiative of Raigunj Municipality another rally was also organized. Here, the chairman of the Raigunj Municipality Mr. Mohit Sengupta and many writers, news personnel, poets and intellectuals participated. In the era of globalization when all the regional dialects and languages are on the verge of becoming extinct, in that juncture 21st February always brings in a ray of hope and love for the mother tongue. The sky and air is filled with the emotional lines in Bengali “আমি বাংলায় গান গাই, আমি আমার আমিকে চিরদিন এই বাংলায় খুঁজে পাই” (I sing in Bengali, I find myself every time in my language Bengali). The tune has caught the equilibrium on both the sides of frontier fences. The entire land in both sides seemed like One Bengal with the enchantment of “আমার সোনার বাংলা, আমি তোমায় ভালোবাসি” (My Golden Bengal, I love you very much). Later in the evening, a literateur felicitation ceremony was also organised jointly by Raiganj Municipality and Nikhil Bharat Bongo Sahitya Sammelon (Raiganj Unit).

SUDDEN FOREST FIRE NEAR UTTORAYON, SILIGURI

By R. Subrata (TNI Siliguri) ~ Edited By D. Prasun (TNI Siliguri)
Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 16th February, 2016: ‪There was a sudden forest fire happened at Uttorayon, Siliguri today evening. One may be astonished, but it came as a surprise to the people around who were passing by the National Highway 34 next to Chandmoni. The spot was exactly opposite to the Police Commissionerate. Local people, who were watching the fire, said that nobody has seen the source of the fire. People were also unsure about, whether the fire was ignited by someone or it has sprung up naturally. During this season especially, the passing away of Winter and incoming of Spring, such kind of forest fire may take a devastating shape in a high vegetation area like that of Chandmoni, where the trees are in a dried state now. This part of Chandmoni is thickly surrounded with trees due to the afforestation measures taken by Luxmi Township and the forest department years ago. It is seen that the fire was engulfing the area exactly like a forest fire. However, the fatality was ruled out from the nature of the fire.

LOVE IS IN THE AIR . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Kaushik Chatterjee
If the question is raised which is the day of love for a Bengalian? Then in one word it can be guessed its Saraswati Puja. In the vanishing winter tinge and the spring fall period Goddess of wisdom has turned into a Goddess of Love for the Bengalians. During this westernization period when Valentine Day is peeping into the traditional Bong Culture then suddenly like a revolution there are thousands of romantic couples are to be seen in Bengal like the epic Uttam-Suchitra duo. In the annual screenplay of the Saraswati Puja, we find many teenage love pairs created and vanished with emotional love offers and rejections. This is the love day. From the boundaries prohibition in this day, these young love bees come out in swarms, the non-practiced wearing of sarees and roaming, meeting the most important person suddenly, flashback, saying the world with just a smile, speaking with gestures etc. reminds them about that the Spring has come. In uniformity throughout Bengal, Raigunj also experiences the premature Valentine’s Day. The parks in Raigunj like Raigunj Municipal Park, Karnojora Park, Ecopark etc is packed with newly graduated Romeo and Juliet in a premature love rain. This year, it’s more special with premiums. The unofficial and official love days are all together. Saraswati Puja and Valentine’s Day fell back to back. Saraswati Puja this year was celebrated in two days. So, 3 consecutive love days means an extra day of love. So, not look behind, the love birds are not to going to let this love opportunity go away without any outcome. After getting a special valentine makeover, and with an 800cc KTM Bike modern day couples jump in Raigunj streets like Shahrukh and Kajol. There are Love Tsunami waves smashing the streets. Then happens the most expected ‘Love is in the air, eyes full of love addiction’. Everywhere, there is rose, Cadburys, pizza, ice-cream, peat cigar along with Kabir Suman’s special lines ‘Flower blossoms or not, but its spring’.

THE SELF DETERMINED MADHYAMIK STORY OF RAJESH FROM TAHERPUR

By Partha Chatterjee (TNI Raiganj)
Webdesk, TNI Raiganj, 5th February, 2016: While his father’s body was being cremated, his son Rajesh was taking his Madhyamik history paper. The black letters swam before his eyes and historical events threatened to create chaos. In his history question paper, Rajesh could only see the loving memories of his father, Subrata Roy. His pen denied forming words on the blank answer sheet. All he could think was about the time his father was well and of the emotional moments of his struggle for survival. Just a few days ago, with the approaching exams, his father had asked him not to accompany him to the fields. He wanted Rajesh to study well and get a decent job. Notwithstanding their poverty, dreams of a better life pervaded their existence. Subrata Roy worked as hired help on other people’s farm so that he could send his only son Rajesh to school. Rajesh is a student of Taherpur high School. He is taking his board exam at the Kailash Chandra Radharani Vidyapith. Today was his history paper. His mother, Kalyani Roy, informed Rajesh’s father died suddenly of cardiac arrest early Friday. After performing the last rites of his father, Rajesh went to sit for his history paper. Subrata was the sole breadwinner of the family. The premature death of her husband has put their economic conditions into disarray. But she is hopeful that with a little government aid, Rajesh would be able to continue his education. The headmaster of Kailash Chandra Radharani Vidyapith, Utpal Dutta, was immensely taken in by Rajesh’s presence at the examination hall. In consideration of his frail condition, the school arranged for electrolyte water and provided all kinds of possible aid. After writing the paper, Rajesh told that he had never dreamt of being in such testing circumstance.  It was too much trouble to take the test. It was his father’s dream to see Rajesh get a proper education and this was the only reason why he appeared for his paper in spite of such a mishap. With his father’s demise, his family is his responsibility. He would have to work and would be able to continue his studies only if he receives some aid.
